The Game Game: A Game Generator

This game was found in a book called THE OUTRAGEOUS OUTDOOR GAME BOOK by Bob Gregson.

You make six dice out of cardboard cube-shaped boxes, each side marked with a different "game element". Then you divide your group into two teams, they roll the dice and then have about 10-15 minutes to "brainstorm" and "invent" a game using the six "elements" each team rolled for the whole group to play.

The special made "dice" are not necessary, you could accomplish the same by rolling ordinary 6-sided dice 6 times against the table below. But certainly the large "box" dice are more showy and and add fun to the endeavor.

Dice #1 is GAME OBJECTIVE or GOALS:
SIdes are 1-Tag 2-Race 3-Throw 4-Guess 5-Pretend 6-Remain Still.

Dice #2 is TYPE OF ACTIVITY
Sides are 1-Sitting 2-Running 3-Jumping 4-Crawling 5-Pantomime 6-Passing (an object)

DIce #3 is the ORGANIZATION of the group
Sides are 1-Circles 2-Safe Zones 3-Start&Finish lines 4-Rows or Lines of players 5-Scattered 6-Huddled

DIce #4 is PROPS or EQUIPMENT
Sides are 1-None 2-Flags or Handkerchiefs 3-Balls 4-A Long Rope 5-Frizbees or Paper Plates 6-Balloons

Dice #5 is ROLES
SIdes are 1-Two Teams 2-Three or More Teams 3-Partners or Pairs 4-Whole Group 5-An "it" 6-Individuals

Dice #6 is THEMES
1-Fantasy 2-Animals 3-Outer Space 4-TV or Movies 5-Monsters 6-Chants (You could create your own catagories here)

After rolling the dice, each team will have to invent a game using the six elements they rolled: for example, one team might have to "brainstorm" a game Involving Guessing, Jumping, Circles, Frizbees, An "it", on a TV or Movie theme. The other team would have a different set of elements to work with. Be sure to have the props and game equipment described above on hand for them to use.

Now it is time for "game testing" and lots of fun!
